Dimapur, Aug. 14 (EMN): Director Inspector General of Police (DIGP-IR) South PHQ, Kohima, N Chumdamo Jamio will receive Police Medal for Meritorious Service on the occasion of India's Independence Day on August 15, making him the lone alone recipient of the award from the state this year.
Jamio is among 631 police personnel in the country to receive the police medal for meritorious service.
The Ministry of Home Affairs has updated that a total of 926 police personnel have been awarded medals on the occasion India’s Independence Day 2020.
Police Medals for Gallantry have been awarded to 215 police personnel for their conspicuous gallant action. President’s Police Medals for Distinguished Service has been awarded to 80 police personnel and Police Medal for Meritorious Service to 631 police personnel.
"Among the majority of the 215 gallantry awards, 123 personnel are being awarded for their gallant action in Jammu and Kashmir, 29 personnel for their gallant action in left wing extremism affected areas and eight personnel for their gallant action in Northeast region", it stated.
Among the Northeast states, Assam has the highest recipients with 21 personnel, followed by Manipur with seven, Tripura – six, Arunachal Pradesh – four, Mizoram – three, Sikkim – two, and Nagaland - one.
