Dimapur, June 17

One can paraphrase Neil Armstrong’s famous quote. In this context: A small step for Naga entrepreneurs, a giant leap for local Naga economy. That is the Naga market, a social initiative of the local anti-illegal immigrant lobbyists Survival Nagaland, for you.
Dimapur based nongovernmental organization Survival Nagaland is organizing its second ‘Naga market’, a platform that the organization hopes would encourage local entrepreneurs to start businesses, no matter how small.
Survival Nagaland is collaborating with the Dimapur district administration, Development Authority of Nagaland and the Department of Handloom & Handicraft to set up stalls on June 20 in Dimapur’s supermarket.
The organization issued a press release on Wednesday, June 17, inviting local entrepreneurs especially food caterers and vegetable sellers to open stalls at the Supermarket. Stalls are limited. The market will be open from 3pm to 9pm.
The event is in continuation of the June 13 market the group organized. Forms will be available at the Bajaj Showroom near the City Tower in Dimapur, police station-23 behind the Traffic Control Room near the Holy Cross junction in Dimapur; Tribal Hut Restaurant, next to Jal Mahal Hotel and opposite to Hotel Acacia in Dimapur; High Noon Restaurant, next to the Town Hall at the Supermarket in the town.

The initiative is entirely a non-profit endeavor with the objective of offering a commercial platform to local entrepreneurs and promote their products, the organization said in a recent statement.
Survival Nagaland has been calling against the growing number of illegal immigrants in Nagaland, particularly those from Bangladesh. The Bangladeshi community in the state has been in the news for years for various alleged criminals activities including engaging in extortion and links with Naga underground groups.
Members of the organization have said that the idea to setting up a market was to encourage the local entrepreneurs, and promote the concept of dignity of labor among the local youths.
Although the response to the first edition of the Naga market was not as expected, the organization is not fazed and is going ahead with the second.
While Survival Nagaland is yet to announce regular markets, it is understood that some of its members are considering that more ‘Naga Market’ would be taken up as a weekly affair to attract entrepreneurs and the public.
