DIMAPUR — As part of the nationwide ‘Meri Maati Mera Desh’ campaign, a number of events were organised across different locations within the Kohima municipal area on Thursday.

As part of the culminating event of the ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’, the events aimed to pay homage to the brave soldiers who made the supreme sacrifice for the nation.

DC Kohima, Shanavas C, delivered the keynote address at an event held near Raj Bhavan, close to the DC’s official residence. He highlighted that the campaign was an opportunity to honour the memory of these ‘veers’ (bravehearts) who gave their lives during India’s struggle for independence.

He recalled the sacrifices made by countless individuals during the fight for freedom and underscored the nation’s unity in diversity. The DC stated that India thrives on its diverse cultural and religious tapestry, noting that these differences should not lead to conflict but rather contribute to societal and national growth.

During the event, he hoisted the national flag while participants sang the national anthem. Imnalensa, SP Kohima, administered the Panch Pran pledge on the occasion, promoting five essential principles.

The shilaphalakam (memorial plaque) was dedicated by the chairman of Officer’s Hill Panchayat to honour the sacrifice of brave souls. T. Lanusenla L. Peseyie, KMC’s administrator, presided over the event.

Similar programmes were held at the Rüzhükhrie Government Higher Secondary School and the Directorate of Art and Culture. These ceremonies were attended by schoolchildren and local leaders.
