DIPHU — Karbi film producer Dhaniram Tisso is currently in Goa, awaiting the screening of his film ‘Mirbeen’ at the 54th International Film Festival of India (IFFI), taking place at the Shyama Prasad Mukharji Indoor Stadium from November 20 to November 28.

The Karbi feature film ‘Mirbeen’ has been chosen for the 54th IFFI Indian Panorama, 2023. It stands out as one of 25 feature films selected for this competition and is the only regional feature from Northeast India in the IFFI 2023 lineup.

‘Mirbeen’ will be presented on November 25 in the Indian Panorama section and again on November 27 in the International section. A total of 25 films will feature in the Indian Panorama section.

The festival was inaugurated by Goa’s Chief Minister, Pramod Pandurang Sawant, with Anurag Thakur, Minister of Information and Broadcasting, and notable film personalities such as Madhuri Dixit, Sunny Deol, Shahid Kapoor, Sara Ali Khan, Karan Johar, along with international film figures, in attendance.

Dhaniram Tisso told Eastern Mirror that ‘Mirbeen’ is the sole representation from Northeast India at this prestigious event.

From a pool of 2905 films, only 50, comprising 25 Indian and 25 foreign films, were chosen for screening.

Tisso likened the selection to the honour of an athlete qualifying for the Olympics, expressing it as both a privilege and a source of pride for the Karbi tribe and Karbi Anglong region.
