DIMAPUR — The History Club of Dimapur Government College (DGC) celebrated World Heritage Day on April 16 on the theme “Discover and experience diversity.”

The guest speaker and state convenor of INTACH, Padmashree Sentila T Yanger, spoke on the importance of understanding heritage in lives and creating awareness on the conservation and preservation of the same. She also spoke on ways and methods of conserving heritage through community involvement, organising events and being a part of cultural institutions, stated an update from the college.

She encouraged the students to explore creative ways like food heritage, cultural tourism and how sharing knowledge and living with the communities can cement friendship. She further stressed that documenting traditional practices, language, crafts are ways of educating and preserving heritage.

The programme witnessed competition on cultural heritage.

The first category of the competition on war cry was won by Lengsho Pangkha of 6th semester in the first position, while Kughaholi K Zhimo of 6th semester and Zaden Ovung of 2nd semester secured the second and third positions respectively.

The second category on perfomative acts/ display was won by Mlei-Ngyi Group in the first position for displaying rice pounding, winnowing and pottery, while second prize was won by Moatsu Group for performing weaving textile and the third prize was won by Ngada Group for performing traditional games.

The judges for the competition were Dr. Asangba, assistant professor of Philosophy; Shuiching Konyak, assistant professor of English; and Asenla T Longkumer, assistant professor of History.
