Kohima, Nov. 10 (EMN): The volunteers of the All Kohima Municipal Wards Panchayat (AKMWP) caught around 1,200 persons without protective facemasks on the second day of the crackdown in the state capital on Tuesday.
Concerned over the citizen's failure to comply with the SOP issued by the authority as a preventative measure against Covid-19, AKMWP had earlier notified the public that persons within and those entering the Kohima municipality without masks would be penalised.
According to the notification, the name of any defaulter breaking the rule would be listed and asked to mandatorily buy the protective mask on the spot at INR 30 from the volunteers manning their respective wards.
On the first day of the crackdown on November 9, around 1,900 persons were caught without masks.
AKMWP stated that they are encouraged to see citizens becoming more aware about the importance of wearing facemasks. They have also requested to assist them in containing the spread of the virus in Kohima for a "better and safer place to live in".
