- The UIDAI project manager of Nagaland, Bhaskar Sharma,
acknowledged the state for becoming the first in the northeast to start
Aadhaar-linked birth registration (ALBR), renamed as birth registration based
Aadhaar enrolment. He, however, pointed out that the state is lagging behind
‘significantly’ in Aadhaar enrolment in the age group of 0-5 years, indicating
less than 10 per cent enrolment. With Aadhaar kits being handed to the
enrolment agency, he expressed hope that it would elevate the enrolment of that
age group.
- The director of Statistics and Economics, Neidilhou Angami,
informed that one could make two certificates namely Aadhaar and birth
certificates through the department as an enrolment agency. He, however, added
that there are formal processes that need to be done and requested the UIDAI to
ensure passage of the procedures so that they could start the registering
process.
- Appreciating the initiative, Worshim Ruiva Shimray, deputy
director of UIDAI for Nagaland, Assam, and Mizoram, wished the mission a
success and expressed hope that it would improve in enrolling people and
Aadhaar updates.
The additional commissioner, L Jamithung Lotha, emphasised
on the importance of bringing out accurate statistics for better implementation
of Aadhaar enrolment. He further informed that placement of more operators are
in the process.
