DIMAPUR — The Department of State Tax conducted a special inclusionary drive on August 12 and 13 to bring unregistered second-hand car dealerships in Dimapur and Chümoukedima under the ambit of the Goods and Services Tax (GST).
The initiative aimed to ensure that all eligible businesses are registered, fostering greater compliance and awareness, stated a DIPR report.
The drive was led by Assistant Commissioner of State Tax (Mobile Squad), Zulutemsu, supported by a team of CSTOs, and joined by the Commissioner of State Tax, Abhinav Shivam, along with Deputy Commissioner of State Tax (Mobile Squad), Toshi Yimchunger.
The Mobile Squad team conducted exhaustive coverage of newly operational used car dealerships, engaging directly with owners at their business premises.

Commissioner Abhinav Shivam stated that the absence of GST registration among many car dealers appeared to stem from a lack of awareness rather than deliberate evasion. He stressed that the objective was not to penalise but to educate and guide the dealers towards compliance.
ACST Zulutemsu noted that the response from dealers was highly encouraging, with many participating enthusiastically in the on-the-spot awareness sessions and expressing their willingness to register under GST.
Dealers were taught the registration process and given reckoner device handouts for future reference. The commissioner added that this initiative is part of the department’s intensified tax optimisation efforts, which have already contributed to improved tax collection in the current financial year.
