Department of Posts asked extend banking services to rural areas

Commissioner and Secretary of Industries and Commerce, K Kevichusa on Saturday asked the department of Posts to extend its banking services to rural areas, saying that the state government is willing to support the facility.

He called upon the employees to put in more effort to raise the profile of Post Office in Nagaland as well as improve their services.

The officer was speaking at the ‘review and felicitation’ programme of the office of Postmaster General, NE-II Region, Dimapur, held in Kohima on April 10.

Kevichusa appreciated the department for their service during the pandemic last year. While lauding the awardees for their extraordinary services, he also called upon the rest to take it as an opportunity to raise the bar.

During the occasion, Parma Mahato and Angom Kadamba Singh were awarded first and second respectively, for their outstanding contribution to the department as sub-inspector in the North East-II region for the year 2020-21.

Best sub postmaster was awarded to S Thangboi Haokip, Post Office, Mon; best postman to K Hekheangla at New Secretariat Complex, sub office; Sheangpong Konyak, postman at Post Office, Mon; and Shivji Prasad, Imphal’s head office of Post.

Best branch postmaster awards were given to Ng Sanjoy Singh, Kanglatongbi branch office and M Khentsumew Yimchunger, Pungro branch office.

Branch postmaster at Patkai Christian College branch office, Taib Hussain; and assistant branch postmaster at Waikhong branch office, M Chajinka, were recognised for opening the highest number of India Post Payment Bank (IPPB) account. They opened a total of 5487 IPPB accounts during the financial year 2020-21.

Highest number of Aadhaar-enabled payment system transactions were awarded to Linpa Kom, branch postmaster, Sagang BO; and Kevigo Sema, assistant branch postmaster, Vihokhu BO.
