DIMAPUR —  In view of the rising dengue cases in Wokha, CMO Wokha, Dr. Zubenthung Kikon, informed the public that the medical department is making every effort to prevent the disease outbreak.

The CMO stated in a press release that the senior medical officer of Bhandari Community Health Centre had previously notified the office of the chief medical officer of suspected dengue cases in Merapani and that the district surveillance officer, along with medical staff, conducted an active case finding and house to house survey on July 27.

He added that samples of suspected cases were later sent for confirmatory tests to Naga Hospital Authority, Kohima, as per the directives received from the medical directorate.

Kikon stated that on August 7, the teams of the National Vector Borne Disease Control Programme (NVBDCP) Wokha and Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme (IDSP) Wokha, along with a medical officer from Bhandari CHC and a community health officer from Merapani Health and Wellness Centre, conducted an entomological survey, fogging, and public awareness in Bhandari block.

He assured that medical staff at Merapani HWC and Bhandari CHC are tirelessly working round the clock to treat patients and added that the NVBDCP Wokha team, IDSP Wokha team, district administration, and village council leaders are working hand in hand to contain the outbreak of dengue in Wokha.

Kikon also expressed his gratitude to Achumbemo Kikon, MLA from Bhandari constituency, for extending financial help to the medical department for surveillance and awareness drive on dengue in the district. He also stated that the NVBDCP Wokha team has planned an awareness and mass screening camp for dengue and malaria on August 16 and 17 at the Vungotchu, Saron, and Rachan colonies in Wokha town.

He appealed to the general public to cooperate with the medical department by following preventive measures for dengue.
