Dimapur, Oct. 25 (EMN):
Dimapur district has registered 59 cases of dengue in the months of September and October, according to District Vector Borne Disease Consultant, Dimapur, Peter Sangtam. Sangtam informed Eastern Mirror that out of 59 cases, four patients were infected from other districts and states -- one patient residing in Kohima got infected in Guwahati, one in Mon and two patients in Assam.

He mentioned that the majority of the cases were detected under Diphupar A area, adding that the Health department has been continuously conducting fogging drives.

More areas are yet to be covered but inclement weather has temporarily stopped the fogging activity, he shared.

Sangtam added that they also do case studies and mobilise the village leaders to spread awareness of safety and preventive measures.

Meanwhile, four cases of dengue were reported in Kohima district this month, out of which two positive cases were imported and one case each was reported from D Block and Kezieke area respectively.

The National Vector Borne Disease Control Programme (NVBDCP), National Health Mission has also issued an alert due to an upsurge of dengue cases around Dimapur and Chumoukedima districts, prominently in Diphupar area.

It advised the public to immediately undergo testing at district hospitals if one experiences any symptoms of fever, nausea, vomiting, rash, aches and pain.

The advisory urged the public to use insecticide repellents, mosquito nets (LLIN) daily during day and night time, and wear long sleeve clothing or long pants.

It asked to avoid stagnation of water in and around dwellings, tires, flower pot bases; and unclogging of drains and covering of water tankers to curb mosquito breeding.
