Delhi Nagaland House comes to the rescue of state’s citizens in capital region

Dimapur, April 20 (EMN): As one of the initiatives of the government of Nagaland, the Nagaland House at New Delhi is helping passengers stranded in the country’s capital, and health patients and other citizens of Nagaland who have been facing difficulties since the nationwide lockdown began.

Nagaland houses in various states in India are the state government’s official pit stops and centers for citizens of the state.

After the Janta Curfew on March 22 and reports about 10 stranded passengers from Nagaland was received, a meeting was held in the office chamber of the deputy resident commissioner of Nagaland House at New Delhi on March 23, the updates stated.

A control center was set up and the government of Nagaland has been extending assistance to students and working persons and health patients including stranded passengers from Nagaland, Nagaland House stated.

“As on date, 13 stranded passengers have been rescued and provided food and shelter at Nagaland House. The control center at Nagaland House is extending assistance in the form of dry rations to people from the state directly as well as through NGOs, after being crossed checked by respective tribal units,” the updates stated.

There has been tremendous support from Naga elders, pastors and student unions, Delhi Police and nongovernmental organisations in Delhi, it stated.

“Owing to the lockdown many of our people are facing serious difficulties in procuring essential items and even financially. Over the last three weeks since the enforcement of lockdown, the government of Nagaland with the support of the student unions have been sincerely reaching out to all our people in these difficult times and extending assistance in all manner.”

According to the press release, over 400 persons have been provided with dry rations. Likewise, 15 ‘patients’ have been assisted by the medical team in Delhi NCR, though there is still a lot needed to be done, the establishment stated.

The control center at Nagaland House at New Delhi appreciates the assistance from various Naga student bodies, Delhi Police (Spuner), tribal bodies, Naga elders and unit churches/fellowships in Delhi in reaching out to those in need.

‘The doctors and nurses from Nagaland who are working at various hospitals in Delhi NCR have been extending timely support to our people, even beyond their call of duty. The honourable chief minister of Nagaland through the CMRF has already sanctioned INR.4,00,000 in two phases (sic) to Nagaland House New Delhi,’ the Nagaland House stated. It is being optimally utilized to ensure that our people do not go hungry, the press release stated.

‘The control center at Nagaland House would like to reassure the parents and families back home that no efforts would be spared to ensure that our people in Delhi NCR are provided timely support and assistance as and when needed.’
