Defending champs Barak FC ease into pre-quarters

Naga Bazar Youth Org and Headwinds FC enter second round

KOHIMA, SEPTEMBER 25

Defending champions Barak FC, Peren, eased into the pre-quarters of the ongoing NSF Martyrs Memorial Trophy as they registered a convincing victory against Sechü Zubza Youth Organisation by 5-0 today at Khuochiezie Ground, Kohima.
Playing the first match of the second round this evening, the SZYO team was on the receiving end all throughout the 70-minutes play as Barak FC dominated the entire match proceedings.
The skipper of Barak FC Tingyek Konyak scored the only goal of the first half in the 24th minute, as he was helped by one of SZYO’s defender whose error got past the keeper.
Entering the second half, SZYO’s effort to find the equalizer was shattered as Barak FC continued with their dominance. Salu Kulim delivered in the 45th minute to give his team the second lead, while Kulim again scored the third goal for his team in the 58th minute.
All out to humiliate the SZYO, Barak FC continued with successive attacks and kept busy their opponents’ defenders with skillful penetration. It was in the 60th minute Aloumei Panmei scored the fourth goal for his team.
Just before the final whistle, Barak’s skipper Tingyek brilliant shot away from the outer D-box found the net again in the 70th minute. Barak’s 5-0 victory was enough to prove to the Khuochiezie crowd that the champions are all set to defend their title.Earlier in the first match of the day, Naga Bazar Youth Organization overcame their rivals Native Feathers, Ntuma of Peren 2-0 to enter the second round.
Naga Bazar’s forward player Neiphivilie Seyie scored twice in both half of the match to steer his team to the next round. Neiphivilie scored his first goal in the 16th minute, followed by the second in the 37th minute.
With the victory, Naga Bazar will next play against Kimho Junior FC, Kohima in the next round.
Playing the second match, which was also the last match of the preliminary knock-out round, Headwinds FC, Kohima downed Poilwa Youth Organization (PYO), Peren to make it through to the second round.
Akhriebu Rüpreo of Headwinds FC gave his team the much needed lead in the 32nd minute. Joining the celebration, Headwinds FC defender Mengukhrietuo Rülho scored the second goal for his team in the 39th minute.
PYO’s effort to fight back was rewarded as Kemchi Dwaswang gave his team a moment to rejoice by netting a superb goal in the 64thminute. But sadly, it was not enough to take PYO to the next round.
