DEF Tuensang holds awareness programme, makes multiple arrests
DIMAPUR — DEF Tuensang held a programme at Sangsangyu Baptist Church on September 3 on the topic of ‘cyber crime and NDPS,’ with the goal of raising awareness and familiarising students and the general public with the dangers lurking in cyberspace.
According to a press release, during the programme, ASI Putiyanger, I/C, Cyber Crime Cell Tuensang spoke on cyber security and financial fraud, and UBSI I Yongkongtoshi spoke on the issues of NDPS spreading rapidly among the youth.
Yongkongtoshi encouraged the youths in the programme to become more involved in social reform and to seek better education in order to maintain a drug-free society. He highlighted some of the basic laws and punishments related to the NDPS Act.
Arrests people for different crimes
The QRT Crime Branch of Tuensang Police, based on specific information, led by UBSI Adikhum, intercepted one night super (Super Travel) bearing registration No. NL-07B0391 bound for Tuensang and seized approximately 34.11 gram of suspected heroin on August 18.
The police also recovered 1,757 contraband capsules from the possession of one person, Tangnio (53 years), of Langnok village, with the address Post Office ‘B’ Sector Tuensang town.
According to a press release issued by Tuensang Police, a criminal case has been filed against the apprehended accused under the NDPS Act for further investigation.
On August 26, based on information received from a reliable source about a drug peddler heading to Tuensang from Dimapur, the QRT Crime Branch reacted swiftly by intercepting a night super (Blue Hill) with registration number NL-03B0729.
The team recovered approximately 44.28 gram of suspected heroin from the possession of one cadre of the NSCN Akato faction, SS’ Lieut. Chemangeangba (39 years), of Pesao village, with the address Bazar Sector Tuensang town.
In this regard, a regular case has been registered under the NDPS Act for further investigation.
Also, on August 29, the officer-in-charge of PS Tuensang arrested one person, namely Naro Chang, of Chingmelen village, having the address of Officers Colony (RP Gate) Tuensang, for selling illicit liquor.
Consequently, the party recovered beer (48 cans) and whisky (2 units). Accordingly, a case has been registered under the NLTP Act for further investigation.
On August 31, while conducting MVCP in the jurisdiction of OP Chare, the party seized 96 bottles of MC rum (750 ml) from a night super bus bearing registration number NL-07B0229.
