Diphu, Feb.22 (EMN):
Karbi Anglong student bodies and civil society organisations has appealed to Union Home Minister Amit Shah to declare Karbi Anglong and Dima Hasao districts as ‘Autonomous State’ under readymade provision of Article 244 (A) of Indian constitution.

Karbi Anglong – North Hills Autonomous Council (KANCHASDCOM), Karbi Students’ Association (KSA), Dimasa Students Union (DSU), Karbi Adorbar, Karbi Riso Adorbar (KRA), Karbi So-arlo Amei (KARSA) and Karbi Unemployed Youth Association (KUYA) made the appeal while welcoming the visit of Shah at Den Arong (Den goan) in Karbi Anglong on February 25.

In a joint press conference held at the office of KANCHASDCOM on Monday, the general secretary of KANCHASDCOM, Sing Timung said,” We heartily welcomed the visit of Union Home Minister Amit Shah at Den Arong (Den goan) in Karbi Anglong on February 25. We appealed to him to declare for us comprising Karbi Anglong and Dima Hasao districts as ‘autonomous state’ under readymade provision of Article 244 (A) of Indian constitution.”

The leaders of KANCHASDCOM and other allied organisations said that some extremist outfits of Karbi Anglong and Dima Hasao will lay down arms to sign an accord between them and Central government, but appealed to the leaders of the extremist outfits not to sign any accords which is less than ‘autonomous state’ under the readymade provision of Article 244 (A) of the constitution, considering the longstanding demand and the constitution rights given for the people of Karbi Anglong and Dima Hasao.

The press conference was attended by president, KANCHADCOM, Ajit Timung and president, KRA, Bimang Kro.
