Death anniversary of Robinhood observed, public convention held in Manipur

Imphal, July 8 (EMN): The 2nd death anniversary of school student Sapam Robinhood who was killed on July 8, 2015 during the popular civil movement for enforcement of Inner Line Permit System (ILPS) in Manipur was observed at Ananda Singh Academy school premises, Imphal East district today. Offering of floral tributes and Thang-Ta presentations and a public convention were the main features of the anniversary at Awaching memorial complex, flood hit district.
A large number of people including students and volunteers of Joint Committee on Inner Line Permit System (JCIPLS) paid homage to the departed soul. Speaking to media persons on the sideline of the public convention, JCILPS Convener Arjun Telheiba said that they are ready to relaunch public movements for the implementation of ILPS or similar mechanism after consulting and meeting the general public within a shortest possible time.Manipur had been witnessing series of public agitations spearheaded by the JCILPS, a conglomerate of various civil society organisations demanding the enforcement of the ILPS since 2015. The movement is aimed at protecting the identity and culture of the indigenous people, and check drastic alteration of the state’s demographic profile due to incessant influx.
The state capital particularly the commercial areas of Imphal town wore deserted look during the day’s observation. The vehicular movement on the inter-state and inter-district roads were very thin. Even the satellite towns around Imphal, namely, Singjamei, Kwakeithel, Lamlong, Palace Gate, Kongba Bazar and Sangakpham Bazar were also deserted. However, there is no report of any untoward incident. The air traffic remained unaffected.
