DDMA Kohima trains citizens on disaster management

Dimapur, July 22 (EMN): With an aim to capacitate and impart disaster response skills to the community, the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), Kohima conducted Community First Responder (CFR) training for sub divisions of Sechü Zubza, Tseminyu and Chiephobozou from July 8 to 19th. The training was initiated as it is the community who first responds during disasters, informed an update from Victor Yhome. Some of the theory skills imparted during the course of the training are “Introduction to Disaster Management, Incident Response System (IRS), characteristics of community first responder, personal and scene safety and practical sessions include knotting, bandaging, emergency method of search and rescue, patient body assessment, triage and splinting. The CFR training was conducted in collaboration with the department of Home Guards & civil defence, district administration, Kohima and supported by Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA), Home department. The training programme was undertaken by the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), Kohima and coordinated by Thejangulie Zao, district disaster management officer, Kohima; and Victor Yhome, district project associate Kohima. About 50 members from various villages attended each of the training programmes held in the three sub divisions.
