Dimapur, March 26 (EMN): In order to check unauthorised autorickshaw drivers operating in Dimapur, the Dimapur District Autorickshaw Drivers’ Union (DDADU) has decided to strictly monitor such activities by undertaking checking of driving licenses and adhering to uniform code.
Addressing the media persons on Saturday, DDADU president, Tito Yeptho, stated that the directives would be implemented following the resolutions adopted by its staff and executive members.
Yeptho also urged passengers to extend their cooperation by travelling in autos that have proper licences, as there have been complaints of passengers losing their belongings and were unable to track down due to a lack of proper identification.
He informed that the union had decided not allow any driver in and around Dimapur to operate without having a valid licence, identity card, or not wearing uniform. He added that the union would soon write a letter to the DC in this regard.
Regarding the purportedly first lady auto driver, Yeptho said that the union did not give recognition to her because she did not have proper documents and apologised to the family members. He, however, stated that if any lady drivers wished to join the union, the union would take into consideration the assurance certificate, uniform, and identity card. He added that the union would approach the government to apply for pink hood for the lady drivers instead of yellow hood for the benefit of the women passengers.
