Dimapur, Nov. 16 (EMN): In a bid to sensitise all stakeholders on sexual abuse of children in the society, the district child protection unit (DCPU) of Longleng observed the Children’s Day and also conducted an awareness programme on ‘child sexual abuse’ on Nov. 14.
Speaking on the occasion which is also the birthday of Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru, the district child protection officer (DCPO), Yangthriba Sangtam said Children’s Day is about celebrating childhood and added that on the auspicious day, tribute is paid to all children in the world.
Saying that it is an occasion which every child loves to celebrate, Sangtam reminded the children to imbibe the values of discipline, cleanliness, honest and above all innocence. He asked all to mould the children to become responsible citizens as they are the leaders of tomorrow and the development of the society and nation lies in their hands.

While encouraging the children to know about their rights and the importance of education, Sangtam asked the students to work hard to achieve their goals and to acquire quality education through teachers and remain financially independent so as to become a responsible citizen.
While speaking about ‘child sexual abuse in the society’, the DCPO urged the children not to remain silent when people try to abuse them sexually ‘both in a contact and noncontact’ manner. He urged the children to be assertive when it comes to sexual abuse and speak up and report the matters to the DCPU, CWC, SJPU and can even dial the toll free child helpline No. 1098. DCPU Longleng also distributed sweets and other food items to the children.
