Dimapur, April 29 (EMN): The District Child Protection Unit, Mokokchung, organised a three-day sports festival from April 24 to the 26th at Care and Support Children's Home, Mokokchung.
The event was conducted to encourage sportsmanship and physical activities among children in the special home, DCPU Mokokchung stated in an update.
Events of the sports festival included ludo, carrom, race, long jump, high jump, football, arm wrestling, belt wrestling and Naga-style wrestling.
[bsa_pro_ad_space id=1]The highlight of the festival was the presence of Venuzo Dawhuo, the reigning champion of Nagaland Wrestling Association, who attended the occasion as a special guest.
Dawhuo showcased the Naga-style wrestling to the children and also motivated them to take it up as a sport.
District Child Protection Officer, Mokokchung, Samuel Kapu underscored the significance of sports in the development of children and advised them to be active to keep themselves healthy.
He acknowledged the support of Observation Home staff, CWC, JJB and Care and Support Society who came forward to extend their support.
