DIMAPUR — The Dimapur Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI) has cautioned that it would resort to indefinite shutter down of business houses and shops if the “unabated multiple taxation, intimidation and summons” by Naga national political groups are not stopped immediately.

In a press release, the DCCI media cell said that the harassment meted out to the business community in Dimapur by various Naga political groups, in the form of multiple taxation and summon letters has reached such an extent that businessmen and traders dread to face each day.

“The will to survive in the competitive market is waning among the business community as the little profit they make through hard labour is being snatched away at gunpoint, leaving many households in tears,” it maintained.

Taking serious note of reports that, of late, some groups are summoning businessmen and traders to their camps and offices on a daily basis under threat, the DCCI asked as to how long the business community can tolerate such summons and threats.

It insisted that the state government and law enforcing agencies should take immediate steps to protect the business community before situation spirals out of hand.

The DCCI also informed the business community not to entertain any call or summons to visit offices of different groups without the knowledge of DCCI.

“If the unabated multiple taxation, intimidation and summons are not stopped immediately, DCCI has resolved to go for indefinite shutter down,” it informed.

Further, DCCI requested the civil society organisations and public at large to bear with the inconvenience in case of a possible indefinite shutter down and to support the genuine cause of the traders and the business community.
