Dimapur, March 9 (EMN): Dimapur Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI) has supported the stand of Nyamo Lotha Road Business Association  (NLRBA) objecting to parking tax to be levied along the NL Road and to be collected by DMC by deploying 30 staff. The organisation press release pointed out that monitoring parking on any road is not the duty of DMC. It stated that primary duty and responsibility of a municipal body is to first look into sanitation and other developmental issues that are still found wanting in many areas as far as the municipal jurisdiction of DMC is concerned. Instead of utilising its manpower in those areas, it has questioned the interest of the DMC in monitoring parking tax and ready to deploy 30 staff for the tax. DMC as a public office should not engage itself in such misadventures without first fulfilling its given duties and responsibilities towards the public, the organisation release stated. It asked the DMC to stop taking refuge under the Regional Transport Authority just for the interest of collecting parking tax but properly utilise its manpower to perform civic body duties. DCCI agreed with the business association which claimed that the move to levy parking tax only at NL Road clearly appears to hamper the business in that area since there are other road stretches too where vehicle parking is messy as well as congested traffic. However, in the interest of the public at large, DCCI appealed the NLRBA to keep in abeyance its decision to down shutters in the event parking tax is levied, stating that DCCI would discuss the matter with the appropriate authority. It affirmed that DCCI as a business body would look into any issue that affects any business association or even a single businessman within its jurisdiction.
