DIMAPUR: The Dimapur Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI) on Thursday condemned the alleged contamination of fish with “chemical-like liquid” by miscreants on May 3 at Signal Bosti in Dimapur.

In a press statement, DCCI said that unknown miscreants “poured chemical-like liquid in 34 fish containers”, according to a video clip that went viral in social media.

“The video clip of the incident indicates that it is the handiwork of some factions as taxation is involved. Had the heinous act gone unnoticed, one can only imagine the health damage done to innocent consumers and subsequent public uproar,” read the statement.

Expressing shock at the incident, DCCI said never in the history of the Naga political struggle has “any faction ever resorted to such abhorrent and outrageous tactics at the cost of public health and lives”.

DCCI requested the commissioner of police and competent authority to take up the matter and book the culprits at the earliest.

Meanwhile, DCCI said it has been receiving complaints that prices of poultry products have increased in the last few days.

“The abnormal increase in prices of poultry products (both wholesale and retail) is attributed to the ban on import of pigs from other states including Assam,” it read.

It therefore requested the Dimapur Municipal Council to strictly monitor and ensure that the poultry products are being sold as per the rates fixed by it.

DCCI also reminded the business community to install CCTVs in their respective offices, godowns, and shops so that “unwanted elements” can be apprehended with the help of the police.

Meanwhile, DCCI extended support to the indefinite ban called by the fish association from May 5 onwards, until the matter is resolved.
