DC Wokha bans smoking in public places

Dimapur, March 16 (EMN): In exercise of power conferred by section 4, 5, 6 and 7 of the Cigarettes and other Tobacco Products (Prohibition of advertisement and regulation of the trade and commerce, production, supply and distribution) Act 2003, Deputy Commissioner, Wokha, Wezope Kenye has prohibited smoking in public places accessed by the general public with immediate effect. Besides, the Deputy Commissioner also prohibited direct and indirect advertisement of cigarettes and other tobacco products, sale of tobacco products to minors and within 100 yards of any educational institutions. He has directed depiction of pictorial health warning mandatory on every tobacco package in the interest of public under Wokha district. A DIPR report said the district administration will appoint Enforcing Officer from every department to impose and collect fine against the violators of the Act.
