In view of the public notice issued by Yimchungru Public Coordination Committee on Thursday, DC Tuensang Alem Jongshi has informed the public not to panic. In a release today, the DC said the government is making all necessary arrangements for any eventuality in and around Tuensang town. All efforts are also being made to identify the organizations and bring about an amicable settlement of the issue, the DC stated.
YPCC clarifies
The Yimchungru Public Coordination Committee has clarified that it has not issued any quit notice to any non-Yimchungru and non-Chang tribe, be it local or non-local, residing in Tuensang town but only appealed to them to vacate the town for their own safety.
Cong, BJP concerned
The Congress and BJP have expressed serious concern over the clashes between Yimchungru and Chang tribes at Chendang Saddle and Yakho village in Tuensang town.
Chairman of Political Affairs Committee (PAC) of Congress KV Pusa expressed dismay at the lackadaisical attitude of the State government in tackling the issue. He urged the State government not to sleep over the issue but to make an effort to settle it at the earliest before the situation goes out of hand. He said situation could have been prevented had the government taken all precautionary measures. Simply imposing Section 144 CrPc will not work but negotiation with the two parties will resolve all outstanding issues, he stated.
Pusa also appealed to the two communities to come to the negotiation table and settle the issue in the interest of all Naga communities. He said violence will not solve the issue but will further deteriorate the situation. The Congress leader also appealed to Yimchungru Public Coordination Committee (YPCC) to withdraw its notice asking other tribes to vacate Tuensang town.
The BJP Nagaland State Unit has fervently appealed for peace and calm in Tuensang district at the earliest.
In a press statement, the BJP state unit said such clashes should be avoided in the interest of the general public at this juncture and hoped that both the parties will come together to resolve their differences and march forward together in order to take the society towards peace and progress. It further appealed that the ongoing clashes should not hamper the students’ future who are preparing for their matriculation examination. The release was issued by Yanghose Sangtam, vice president, BJP Nagaland State Unit.
