DIMAPUR, OCTOBER 30

DEPUTY Commissioner, Peren, Senti Ao, has been officially directed by Additional Chief Secretary and Commissioner, Banuo Z. Jamir, to take “necessary action” to fulfill the Government decision to shift the District Headquarters as per the directives issued to him on Friday, October 25.The official order also stated that the circular issued by the Deputy Commissioner on Monday, October 28 in this connection regarding continuance of the Abeyance order issued by him on October 18 was “contrary to the directives” issued to him and hence set aside.
The Deputy Commissioner had reportedly issued his Abeyance Order under duress, according to reliable sources.
Meanwhile, the Zeliangrong People’s Organisation (ZPO) has clarified that the lightning bandh called at Peren Town on October 28 was by a group who “always went against the Government’s decision” by disrupting the process of shifting Peren District headquarters to the new site in spite of knowing the Government’s clear order.
A press release by ZPO Gen. Secy. Kerang Dumita, today said that along with it, the majority of the Zeliangrong people in Peren District are for shifting to the new site. As such, it warns any individual or group or people using the name of ZPO in disrupting any Govt developmental activities, of serious consequences.
The ZPO feels that the DC had hurt the feelings of the Zeliangrong people for not upholding his assurance given in the presence of Sr. S.P. and SDO (Civil), at Jalukie Town administrative rest house. Had he done so, the shifting could have been done that very same day itself. Instead, he fled to Kohima, the release said.
ZPO was hurt by DC’s action for committing such “unexpected deed” to the people of Peren District and felt that he was cowed down by only a handful of people which make us doubt that he had an emotional attachment with those people. “The people of Peren District never thought that such a senior Govt. official could have committed such an act wherein “he was scared of the people supporting him,” the release said.
The ZPO, however, expressed appreciation and support the bold steps taken by Sr. SP Peren in speaking the truth against those who did not represent ZPO. Since his statement was literally correct, the ZPO shall stand by him in all matters relating to the incident of October 28, the release said. The release also told the “so called media cell ZPO who are playing behind the curtains to come out in the open instead of hiding” and identify themselves as to who they are.
The release further strongly warned Azu Newmai and Kisamyi lrangguang to be within their limits as Govt. registered society which cannot be said to represent the sentiments of the Zeliang people as a whole. The Zeliangrong civil Societies are not “bonded” by any govt. act. “It is high time that they wake up from their slumber instead of claiming themselves as representing Zeliang people.”
ZPO has suggested that if the two men wanted to represent the organization, then they should convene a general meeting of all the Zeliang people under Peren District at a convenient time and place so that, a clear decision can be given by the people as to who should represent ZPO. “This is our challenge or request that instead of hiding in your hide-out, come out in the open if you so desire to work for our people,” the release added.
