DIMAPUR — The deputy commissioner (DC) of Noklak, Arikumba, launched the ‘Made in Noklak woodstove’ during a programme at Whilte Hall in Noklak town on Tuesday. The programme was organised and promoted by the Thang Students’ Union (TSU).
Speaking at the launch event, the DC expressed his sincere appreciation to Tumong of Noklak village, the innovator behind the ‘Made in Noklak woodstove.’ He commended Tumong for his strong determination in creating an environmentally friendly woodstove that could be used for cooking and various other purposes.
The DC advised Tumong to consider obtaining patent rights for his innovative invention with guidance from the relevant department, stated a DIPR report.
The DC has described Tumong as an asset to the district, noting that besides the woodstove, he had also created an electric bike and dryer machines in recent years. The DC informed that Tumong was the runner-up in the Nagaland Start-Up Green Innovation Challenge held in Dimapur at YouthNet office on August 16, 2023. He expressed hope that Tumong’s innovative ideas would benefit the district as a whole.
While encouraging Tumong, the DC emphasised the importance of maintaining the same zeal and interest in the future. He assured the gathering that the district administration would provide all possible assistance in the future.
He further encouraged the students to possess strong determination, sincerity, dedication and hard work to achieve their goals.
The innovator of the woodstove, Tumong, explained the various uses of the woodstove including cooking. He mentioned that the woodstove is also available in the market.
Tumong expressed his gratitude to all who had assisted him in the process of creating the woodstove. He specifically thanked the former DC of Noklak, Reny Wilfred; former SP of Noklak, Dr. Pritpal Kaur; department of Industries and Commerce, and all individuals who have contributed to making his dream a reality.
The event featured short speeches by functional manager of SDIC Noklak, Nyeipa Phom; vice president of Khiamniungan Tribal Council, TL Khaoshai; and vice president of Khiamniungan Students’ Union, Indhe Lam.
Special musical performances were presented by Shongmo B and Tsuken S. The programme was chaired by TSU social and cultural secretary, Chongkoi K Lamniah.
