DIMAPUR — The Deputy Commissioner of Mokokchung has issued a notification received from the Home Department of the Government of Nagaland, stating that, as per the directive of the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS), stringent actions will be taken against offenders involved in hoax calls or bomb threat incidents at the airport under the Suppression of Unlawful Acts Against the Safety of Civil Aviation Act, 1982.

BCAS has issued several guidelines and orders to address bomb threats and messages, as such incidents are a serious cause for concern and lead to significant inconvenience for passengers, airlines, and security agencies, stated a DIPR report.

Further attention is drawn to Section 39(a) of the Suppression of Unlawful Acts Against the Safety of Civil Aviation Act, 1982, which outlines offences at the airport: “Whoever, at any airport, unlawfully and intentionally uses any device, substance, or weapon—commits an act of violence likely to cause grievous hurt or death to any person; destroys or seriously damages any aircraft or facility at the airport; or disrupts any service at the airport, endangering or threatening to endanger safety at the airport—shall be punishable with life imprisonment and shall also be liable to a fine.”

Whoever attempts to commit or abets the commission of any offence under this section shall also be deemed to have committed such an offence and shall be punished with the penalty provided for such offences.

It is therefore requested that action under the law be initiated to implement stringent corrective measures.
