DC Kohima urges officials to prioritise election duties

DIMAPUR — In preparation for the upcoming general election for the 18th Lok Sabha, the deputy commissioner (DC) and district election officer (DEO), Kohima, convened a meeting with the officials of the election expenditure monitoring team on Thursday at the DC office conference hall in Kohima.

During the meeting, DC and DEO Kohima, Kumar Ramnikant, emphasised the importance of taking election duties seriously and prioritising them. He also urged the officials to thoroughly review the guidelines outlined in the election expenditure monitoring handbook to ensure the smooth conduct of the election, free from any form of inducement or bias.

Ramnikant asked the officials to take the responsibility very seriously and urged all the different teams to work closely for the successful conduct of the election. He remarked that no exemptions from election duty would be entertained.

The district nodal officer for election expenditure monitoring (EEM) and deputy registrar of Nagaland Cooperative Societies, Bokato Hesso, provided detailed information about the role and duties of the EEM team during the election. He also highlighted the use of the Election Seizure Management System (ESMS) app.

Earlier, assistant election officer of Kohima, Olivi Thurr, while chairing the meeting, informed the EEM team, which includes assistant expenditure observers, the video surveillance team, the video viewing team, the accounting team, the flying squad team, the static surveillance team, and the control room, that they would become automatically activated from the date of the announcement of the election.

Thurr urged all the officials detailed for election duty to be vigilant and discharge their duties in accordance with the Election Commission of India’s guidelines.
