DC Kohima seeks assistance for peaceful ULB polls

DIMAPUR — The deputy commissioner of Kohima, Kumar Ramnikant, on Wednesday called upon the ward authorities and political parties to assist the polling officials deputed on election duty for peaceful conduct of urban local body (ULB) elections in the district.

Kumar stated this during a district-level coordination meeting of the ward authorities and political parties held in his office’s conference hall in view of the upcoming elections to Kohima Municipal Council (KMC) and Chiephobozou Town Council (CTC. He called upon the concerned to assist the polling officials deputed on election duty for peaceful conduct of ULB elections in the district, a DIPR report stated.

Speaking in the meeting, Anthony Ngullie, secretary to Government of Nagaland and election observer for KMC, urged asked the ward officials to strictly follow the model code of conduct to ensure free and fair elections.

Also speaking in the meeting, S Tainu Khiamnungan, additional secretary to the Government of Nagaland and election observer for Chiephobozou Town Council, requested the ward authorities and political parties to take the elections seriously saying it is for progress and development. She urged the ward leaders to work within the guidelines issued by the State Election Commission (SEC).

Report stated that Lanusenla Longkumer, returning officer of KMC, and Alemyapang Longchar, returning officer of CTC, highlighted the status of nominations filed respectively and requested the ward authorities to assist the sector officers and election officials in the distribution of voter information slips to the voters.

Meanwhile, the additional superintendent of police and district police nodal officer, Relo Aye, stated that necessary security arrangements would be made for the elections.

Leaders from the wards also shared suggestions for successful conduct of elections.

Coordination meet held in Tening town

To create awareness on the model code of conduct for the upcoming ULB election, a coordination meeting was held at Old Tening Town hall under Peren district on Wednesday.

The additional deputy commissioner (ADC) and returning officer (RO) of Tening, Lemlila Sangtam, briefed the members on how to maintain law and order responsibly during the election and to strictly adhere to the model code of conduct. She also requested all the intending candidates to contest the elections honourably and peacefully.

In regard to voters information slips, Sangtam informed that disbursement of the slips would be announce on right time.

The meeting was attended by various political parties, representative from Tening village council, all Ward GBs and intending candidates from all the 9 wards of Tening town.
