DC Kohima informs on bye-election

Dimapur, Nov. 1 (EMN): Deputy Commissioner (DC) and District Election Officer (CEO), Kohima, Mohammed Ali Shihab A has informed all concerned that under Section 126 of the Representation of the People Act, 1951, no campaign should be carried out in the period of 48 hours ending with the hour fixed for the close of poll.

The Election Commission of India vide letter No. 462/ INST/ 2007-PLN-I dated 8th January, 2017, directed that no political functionaries/ party workers/ procession functionaries/ campaign functionaries etc. from outside the constituency and who are not voters of the constituency should remain in the constituency after the campaign period is over.

Accordingly, the DC has informed all concerned to take note of the restrictions and ensure that no political functionaries/ party workers/ procession functionaries/ campaign functionaries etc. from outside the constituency and who are not voters of the constituency remained in the constituency from 4 pm of November 1 till the election is over.

Meanwhile, the deputy commissioner of Kohima had a final briefing with all the sector officers, commanders, nodal officer (health) and sector health regulators in connection with the forthcoming bye-election to the Nagaland Legislative Assembly from 14 Southern Angami -1(ST) assembly constituency on October 31 in his office’s conference hall, a DIPR report stated on Sunday.

In the meeting, general observer for bye-election SK Pradhan has encouraged the assigned polling officers to be well versed with the guidelines given by the Election Commission of India. He also called upon them to give their best efforts in their respective assigned duties for the peaceful and safe conduct of the bye-election.

The DC, in his final briefing to the assigned officers, reminded them to work together, share ideas and co-ordinate with each other in all aspects relating to election process.

Mentioning on the election motto “Free, fair, safe and peaceful election”, the DC called upon them to perform their respective roles as per the guidelines given by the ECI and to ensure smooth conduct of the bye-election.

Superintendent of Police, Kohima, Manoj Kumar also urged the concerned officials to maintain law and order and to execute their duties as per the ECI guidelines for the successful conduct of bye-election.

The additional deputy commissioner of Kohima, Lithrongla Tongpi Rutsa, and the chief medical officer of Kohima, Dr. Vezokholu, also apprised the members on the present status of Covid-19 pandemic and the precautionary measures undertaken for the safe conduct of bye-election.

It stated that besides the sub-divisional officer (C), Jakhama, and returning officer for bye-election Ruopfukuotuo Noudi, all the sector officers and sector commanders, nodal officer (health) and sector health regulators attended the meeting.
