DC Kohima for strict compliance of ‘No Smoking’

Dimapur, July 5 (EMN): Deputy Commissioner and Chairman of DLCC, Kohima, Rajesh Soundararajan, has instructed the Regional Transport Officer, Kohima, and the Superintendent of Police, Kohima, to issue notification with regard to the implementation of ‘No Smoking’ in public transports and also urged them to direct the concerned taxi and city bus associations for strict compliance.
The DC requested the Superintendent of Police to carry out more enforcement raids and checking, preferably twice in a month, with regard to Section 4,5,6 & 7 and to include the cases outcome in the fortnight report.
Section 4 refers to prohibition of smoking in public places, while Section 5 refers to prohibition of advertisement of cigarettes and other tobacco products, Section 6 refers to prohibition on sale of cigarette or other tobacco product to a person below the age of 18 years and Section 7 refers to restriction on trade and commerce in production, supply and distribution of cigarettes and other tobacco products. Deputy Commissioner also informed on the last resolution adopted by the District Level Coordination Committee (DLCC) of Tobacco Control Board Cell, Kohima, during the month of March 2017 which decided to declare all the schools under Kohima district as ‘Tobacco Free’ schools.
The DC, therefore, urged both the Regional Transport Officer, Kohima, and Superintendent of Police, Kohima, for compliance of ‘No Smoking’ in public place and transport and to carry out more enforcement drives under COPTA 2003. Deputy Commissioner further urged the stakeholders to display ‘No Smoking’ awareness stickers in all the vehicles, which can be collected from RTO office, Kohima, and the RTO, Kohima.
