DIMAPUR — Rashtriya Ekta Diwas (National Unity Day) was observed on Tuesday at DC conference hall in Kohima to commemorate the birth anniversary of the ‘Iron Man of India’, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.

According to a DIPR report, the district administration, led by DC Kohima Kumar Ramnikant, organised a pledge-taking ceremony in collaboration with various heads of offices, with participation from all officers, staff, and employees coming together to pay tribute to Patel’s legacy.

Addressing the gathering, Ramnikant reflected on India’s challenging path to unity and independence. He highlighted that in 1947, when India gained independence, it consisted of approximately 600 princely states and independent kingdoms, and the nation was not yet ready to function as a unified entity.

Patel’s visionary leadership was responsible for uniting this diverse nation into a cohesive whole, he said, noting that India has since evolved into a more powerful global entity.

Ramnikant emphasised that Rashtriya Ekta Diwas is observed throughout the country to reaffirm the inherent strength and resilience of Indians in the face of threats to the nation’s security, unity, and integrity.

PHQ Kohima: On Tuesday, Rashtriya Ekta Diwas was also observed at the conference hall of the Police Headquarters (PHQ), Kohima.

According to a DIPR report, Rupin Sharma, the Director General of Police (DGP), Nagaland, stated on the occasion that Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel played a pivotal role in establishing the foundation of modern policing and maintained the importance of safeguarding India’s security, unity, and integrity.

He also emphasised that India’s true strength lies in its diversity, and he encouraged all citizens to work together for the cause of peace, progress, and prosperity, as well as the importance of unwavering commitment to a united, strong, and prosperous India.

The programme also included a pledge-taking ceremony, where participants reaffirmed their dedication to the unity and integrity of the nation.

The event concluded with remarks from K P A Ilyas, the Deputy Inspector General of Police (CID), emphasising the importance of upholding the values of unity and integrity not only on this special day but throughout the year.
