Dimapur, May 1 (EMN): The deputy commissioner and president of society for prevention of cruelty to animals (SPCA), Dimapur, Rajesh Soundararajan inaugurated a shelter home for animals at district veterinary hospital on Saturday.
Speaking on the inaugural programme, the DC acknowledged the efforts put in by SPCA Dimapur towards making the shelter home for animals a reality. He has also thanked the Veterinary department for providing a space to set a shelter for animals.
While lamenting the apathetic attitude of people towards animals, the DC stated that selling of meat is legalised but cruelty to the animal is not legalised. He, therefore, urged the gathering to spread awareness and organised sensitisation campaigns to the public regarding legal provisions on the prevention of cruelty to animals.
In his keynote address, SPCA vice president N Joseph Lemtur has briefed about formations of the organisation. He added that the shelter home was built at the cost of INR 1.50 lakh which could accommodate around seven dogs.
Short speeches were also delivered by the veterinary surgeon and president of Nagaland veterinary association, Dr. KN Humtsoe, and DMC public health centre and deputy director, Dr Sentinungla. The vote of thanks was delivered by ADCP (crime) and SPCA ex-officio vice president Relo T Aye.
