Dimapur, Oct. 4 (EMN): Taking into considering the plight of students community and the common people in their inability to afford travelling in private transport, the Dimapur Ao Youth Organisation (Dayo) has urged the state government to resume plying of public transport/ NST at reasonable rates without further delay.

A Dayo statement, issued by its media cell, stated that ever since the national lockdown was imposed, the poorest section of the society has always been on the receiving end adding same desperation was also equally felt in Nagaland.

It pointed out that with the relaxation of inter-state and intra-district movement of goods and people, the private transport operators are serving the public to its commitments, notwithstanding the fact that fares have increased exponentially due to the existing norms of seating arrangements resulting in lesser intake capacity.

Dayo has termed it ‘unfortunate and regrettable’ that the state-owned public transport system especially the Nagaland State Transport (NST) buses are yet to hit the roads making it difficult for the common people to bear the costs of travelling particularly to meet medical attention across the districts and state.

Besides, Dayo also pointed out the plight of students and competitive examination aspirants, who are in need of cheaper transportation services, in order to rejoin their educational institutions for studies and other academic related matters.

In the light of the above stated circumstances, Dayo has urged the state government to resume the public transport/ NST services at reasonable rates without further delay.
