[dropcap]D[/dropcap]angerous developments are fast emerging in recent times in the country. These developments are threatening the delicate ‘secular and social fabrics’ where ‘unity in diversity’ is the tag. Issues such as Good Governance Day on Christmas Day, Bhagavad Gita as national scripture, constructions of the statue and a temple of Mahatma Gandhi’s assassin Nathuram Godse and anti-conversion law are in fact big threats to the unity of India. External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj ‘vociferously sought national scripture status’ for the Bhagavad Gita while attending at the ‘Gita Prerna Mahotsav’ organised to celebrate 5,151 years of religious book Gita at the Red Fort Maidan in New Delhi. “Bhagavad Gita has answers to everybody’s problems and that’s why I said it while standing in the Parliament that, ‘Shrimad Bhagwad Gita’ should be declared as the national holy book,” Sushma Swaraj said. Again, activists of Akhil Bharatiya Hindu Mahasabha performed a ceremony in Meerut for construction of a temple dedicated to Nathuram Godse. The ‘bhumi pujan’ (prayers) were performed at a temple on Shaarda Road in Meerut. General secretary of Akhil Bharatiya Hindu Mahasabha Acharya Madan praised Godse and called him a true patriot. The Hindu Mahasabha has also made a declaration to construct statues of Nathuram Godse.Earlier, the NDA government has declared that December 25 (Christmas Day) will be celebrated as Good Governance Day. The government has also decreed that Good Governance Day will be a working day for the government. Recently, BJP MP and Union Minister Sadhvi Niranjan Jyoti had said, “The people of Delhi have to decide if they want a government of Ramzaadon (descendants of Ram) or haramzaadon (those who are illegitimately born).” Today, the issue of conversion by the Hindu fundamentalists is dominating the national TV channels and newspapers. Now, one wonders whether the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government under Narendra Modi is linked to all these farce developments. Several unheard Hindu based outfits are today very vocal. BJP leaders too have become vocal while promoting Hindu nationalism. All these activities are seen soon after the NDA under Narendra Modi came to power in the month of May.
