KOHIMA, AUGUST 23

NAGALAND state BJP and JD (U) are extending full support to DAN consensus candidate CM Chang in the ensuing bye-election to 51 Noksen Assembly Constituency, which is slated for September 4.
A joint delegation of leaders from the NPF, BJP and JD (U) headed by Minister for Roads & Bridges, Kuzholuzo (Azo) Nienu, who is also convenor of the DAN election campaign committee, have been camping in Noksen since August 21. At Noksen, Azo Nienu convened a meeting where DAN leaders deliberated on strategies for the bye-election. DAN partners BJP and JD (U) were exhorted for extending full support to ensure the victory of CM Chang. While expressing optimism about the victory of CM Chang, the election campaign convener, however, said DAN should not undermine the rival candidate as in elections nothing can be predicted till the declaration of results.
Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio and NPF President, Dr. Shurhozelie attended and addressed the “kickoff election campaign programme” of DAN coalition held at Noksen public ground on Thursday.
BJP and JD (U) leaders and even the NCP also addressed the rally.
State BJP spokesman and general secretary, James Vizo, said the BJP had remained loyal, steadfast and committed to DAN alliance since its formation in 2003. Things are looking bright for the DAN coalition as the BJP-led NDA would definitely come back to power in the Centre.
Alleging that the Congress-led UPA government was giving “step motherly” treatment to Nagaland state, Vizo reminded that during Vajpayee’s tenure as Prime Minister, the BJP government had been generous enough to give special economic package to Nagaland State.
Terming Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi as one of the most effective BJP leaders, Gujarat state is today a prosperous state. Likewise, Neiphiu Rio is one of the most capable among Chief Ministers of north east States, Vizo said. The BJP spokesman was accompanied by State BJYM president, Kahoto Chishi.
Nagaland JD (U) president Mhonjan Lotha conveyed greetings of national JD (U) president Sharad Yadav to the public of Noksen A/C. He said the bye-election is a blessing in disguise as numerous Ministers and Parliamentary Secretaries are coming to Noksen constituency and know first hand about the developmental needs of the constituency. The state JD (U) president also disclosed that Limaonen had approached the party for party ticket but that it was rejected as JD(U) is in the DAN coalition.
NCP legislator Imtilemba Sangtam also appealed to the electorate of Noksen to vote in favour of CM Chang.
