DAN organises training for mentors of children’s parliament

DIMAPUR — Development Association of Nagaland (DAN) under its children’s parliament initiative conducted a one-day training for the mentors of children’s parliament at its training centre in Chekiye village on June 27.

An update from DAN stated that Lovitoli Awomi, counseling psychologist from Lapiye Centre for Mental Well-being, addressed the participants on mental health and psychosocial support for children. She stated that mental issue could happen to anyone-be it a child or an adult. She added that mentors of children’s parliament or adults dealing with children should try to understand the changes and challenges in adolescence.

Rev. Fr. Kokto Kurianen spoke on ‘Creative engagement with children in the school and community. He stated that as mentors dealing with children, they must always adapt themselves to the changing scenario and actively engage to motivate the children in a creative manner in order to bring out the best in the child.

Jiji Joseph, DAN senior programme officer, has highlighted the roles and responsibilities, which are expected from the mentors of children’s parliament.

The training programme was attended by eighteen mentors from different schools and communities.

In a separate statement, DAN informed that two of its training associates namely Vekhenshe K and Maheni along with two students Longdichum and Pisala from Kiphire attended a two-day training of the trainers and children organised by PRATYeK at Auxillium Reach Out, Guwahati, on June 26 and 27.

The focus of the training was on child rights, sustainable development goals (SDG) and children’s parliament.

It stated that a total of 45 participants from five Northeastern states representing 15 different organisations have participated in the training.
