Dimapur, July 1 (EMN): Paddy fields along Sidzü River were reported submerged by river sand following construction of a dam for supply of water to Kohima town.
In a press release, secretary of Sidzü dam affected farmers, Vileto Kiso, stated that their paddy fields were completely submerged by river sand with the construction of a dam at Sidzü river for supply of water to Kohima town.
“We were never informed about the development and now our fields lay below the river sand. All we ask is our rights for compensation for our loss,” the release stated.
The affected farmers have sought the assistance of the media in conveying their displeasure to the department and government for the delay in release of compensation. They have acknowledged the important role of the media in helping the poor farmers, who are totally dependent on agriculture for survival.
