Dimapur, August 1 : Dapfhutsumia Youth Organisation Kohima Village has expressed dismay at the utter negligence of the Municipals of Kohima for randomly dumping waste in the jurisdiction of D.Khel and Lerie which poses hazardous to public health and environment while failing to implement the much-hyped solid waste management. The Youth Organisation in a complaint letter to Director of Urban Development Nagaland said, the solid waste management was commissioned in February 2016 but remained only for publicity. The team found that the project piles with waste dumping were never recycled and the D. Khel community and surrounding villages had to go through repugnant experiences when waste dumping was randomly scattered in the jurisdiction by Municipals of Kohima. “The cultivators/farmers and the surrounding villages experienced the most repulsive environmental hazards during D.Khel, Kohima dumping episode and the present location at Lerie, Kohima (Solid waste management) is nearing to the hazards. All the surrounding areas are polluted. The locality and surrounding villages are at threat with various negative impacts. The spread of contaminated viruses are very much in near future,” stated the letter signed by DYO president Er. Neisavotuo Sachti and general secretary Kereivilie Kire. Basing on the findings, the DYO said, if the project is an illusion rather than the dream management, then it will not allow its primed land to be hazardous dumping land. “If at all, the project cannot function according to the specification, then return the community land, while the community shall not entertain any government land allotment to any individual or private parties in and around the area except to the land owner.”
