THE residents of D Block, Kohima has appealed to the concerned authority and department to construct a proper drainage system down the stream line in order to avert second disaster.
Talking to media persons, colony people said the people of state capital are grateful for the good work of PWD in constructing retaining wall at the sinking area in D.Block, the lifeline road of Kohima. It may be recalled that the due to continuous sinking in the area, the entire portion of road sunk last year in July affected 21 families as it also damaged many buildings. Because of the landslide, the road which is also the lifeline of Kohima town was damaged with vehicular traffic creating problem for almost 10 days. But the State PWD department was quick in restoration work for free traffic flow in the area.
Subsequently the authorities also constructed a huge retaining wall but the concerned residents therefore expressed concern that the land below the newly constructed retaining wall (bottom line) is continuously sinking and there is danger of second major disaster in the long run as the wall and road may not be able to sustain the continuous sinking in the area if protection is provided right from the streamline of the colony.
The continuous sinking down from the stream has also affected several houses in between the stream and main road. Major cracks are visible in houses and the empty land in the area.
In this connection the citizens of D. Block has appealed to the Urban Development Department, Nagaland Disaster Management Cell and government to immediately take up the matter with seriousness and construct proper drainage system at the stream line.
