CYF holds coordination meeting with affiliated units
DIMAPUR — The Chakhesang Youth Front (CYF) undertook area tours on March 22 and 23 and held a series of coordination meetings with its affiliated units in Chozuba village, Pfutsero town and Phek town respectively.
An update from the organisation stated that a total of 200 youth leaders from 62 units attended the coordination meetings.
The tour was aimed at exploring the realities at the grassroots and understanding the everyday challenges faced by the youth leaders especially in implementing the standing resolutions of the Chakhesang Public Organisation (CPO) regarding the conservation of biodiversity and the ban on import of pigs within Chakhesang jurisdiction.
It stated that the organisation confiscated three hunting rifles during surprise checking within its jurisdiction. Besides, the team also caught hunters from other tribes found hunting in the reserved forests.
It mentioned that CPO has banned hunting, fishing with harmful equipments, extraction of medicinal plants, import of unvaccinated piglets and all pigs above 30 kg within the Chakhesang jurisdiction.
The CYF informed that it would continue to implement the CPO resolutions and penalise defaulters in the greater interest of the community at large.
It stated that conserving nature and maintaining the integrity of ancestral forests remain the core activity of the CYF in order to ensure survival of biodiversity for generations to come.
With the experiences from the tour, it stated that CYF team would soon chart new measures to tackle the defaulters and also raise consciousness among its citizens and beyond. Taking in consideration the concerns shared by the youth leaders about the drug menace in the society, CYF decided to discuss with the authorities and experts at the earliest in order to figure out the best in dealing with the concerning situation at hand.
