TUENSANG — The Chang Wetoshi Setshang (CWS) on Thursday launched its first phase of agitation by shutting down Sao Chang College, Tuensang, to protest the failure of the Higher Education department to fulfil its “Charter of demand.”

The student body sealed the college office and gate and said that the institute would remain shut until the demands were fulfilled.

Talking to Eastern Mirror, CWS general secretary Sanglekhamba said, “There has been no response from the concerned authority. So the college will remain shut until a satisfactory outcome is achieved. We might even go for the second phase unless the demands are met.”

The student community also informed that they will stage a peaceful march on October 13 at 9 am, starting from Tower Clock to the deputy commissioner’s office complex as part of the agitation.

Earlier on September 8, 2023, the CWS submitted a memorandum to the Directorate of Higher Education, before serving an ultimatum to the department on September 26, in connection with issues faced by students of Sao Chang College.

In its memorandum, the student body had outlined a list of demands, including the appointment of a principal for Sao Chang College, to address staff shortage issues (both teaching and non-teaching), upgrade the science laboratory, and provide adequate college buses.
