The 25th Tournament Anniversary of the Chakhesang Wrestling Association (CWA) is scheduled to be held at Pfusero Sports Complex, on February 18 and 19, under the theme, “Exploring a Greater Vision,” states a press release.
Parliamentary Secretary for Planning & Coordination, Evaluation & Monitoring Cell and Tax Neiba Kronu will grace the inaugural ceremony as the chief guest while Deputy Commissioner, Phek, Murohu Chotso will grace the closing ceremony as the guest of honour and distribute the prizes.
Referees for the two-day tourney anniversary include Hukhoneyi Soho, Chisazo Dawhuo, Huvesu Puro and Lhuvenu Phesao while Kewetso Marhu, Nuvecho Vero, Vecüsüyi Chüzo, Vedo-o Khusoh, Kewekhe Tsido and Wezhiepe Wetsa will be in panel of judges.Altogether 60 Naga style wrestlers from the five areas will vie for the coveted title, where the champion will receive a cash prize of 1,50,000, sponsored by KG. Kenye, Advisor to CM, the first runner Rs1,10,000 sponsored by Kuzholuzo (Azo) Nienu, MLA, while the 3rd and 4th position holders will be awarded cash prize of Rs 80,000 and Rs 50,000 sponsored Kudecho Khamo, Chairman, Entrepreneur Development Agency and Mutsezo Tetseo, President, Naga Japanese Foundation, Japan respectively.
Prize money for four losing quarter finalist, Rs10,000 each, is sponsored by Er. Abija Khing, Executive Engineer, PWD (R&B) Phek Division.
Prominent wrestlers in the tournament will include Surhoneyi Soho, the 6th time Phek Area champion also the champion of Naga Open Wrestling Championship in 2009 & 2011, Naga Hornbill Wrestling champion 2009, Venuzo Dawhuo, Naga Open Wrestling Champion in 2015, Vechita Khesoh, King of the Ring champion and also Naga Hornbill Wrestling champion in 2012 & 2014, Besuhvo Vadeo and Lhikhrope Kenye.
The best 20 wrestlers will represent the CWA in the forthcoming NWA 25th edition to be held at Kohima local ground on March 1o and 11.
