DIMAPUR — Chümoukedima Village Youth Society (CVYS) has reiterated its standing resolution on the ban on hunting, fishing, foraging (vegetables, fodder, wood collection) and any other activities that deplete the flora and fauna within its jurisdiction.

A CVYS press release cautioned that defaulters/ hunters, if caught violating the resolution, would be sternly dealt with and a penalty of not less than INR 1 lakh would be levied on violators depending on the severity of the act. It also strictly prohibited carrying of firearms and all types of firearms intended to be used for hunting within its jurisdiction. It added that confiscated firearms would be processed for license cancellation, while unlicensed firearms/ air rifles or any other hunting tools would be destroyed on the spot.

CVYS also issued stern warning against setting wildfire by any individual or parties. It warned that such persons would be levied punitive fine of INR 5 lakh or more depending on the severity of destruction besides initiating legal action as per provision of the law.

With the Old Chümoukedima Heritage Village becoming a favoured site for trekkers, picnic parties and visitor, CVYS appealed the visitors to maintain the heritage site and public amenities. It resented the alarming trend of vandalising/ defacing monuments and public rest houses by miscreants and warned that such acts would not be tolerated. Visitors are directed to dispose off their wastes responsibly.

CVYS further appealed the residents to adhere to cautionary signboards put up within its jurisdiction including speed limits and prohibition of underage driving inside the village jurisdiction.

Observing the rising criminal activities of robbery, drug peddling and public nuisance, CVYS has restricted loitering inside the village jurisdiction without genuine reason after 8 pm. While informing that youth volunteers on duty have been instructed to halt and enquire, it advised the commuter/ visitors to cooperate with the youth volunteers.
