Customary court inaugurated in Thonoknyu under Noklak district

DIMAPUR — Deputy Commissioner of Noklak, Arikumba, inaugurated a customary court of the Thonoknyu Area Village Chief GBs’ Union (TAVCGBU) at Thonoknyu headquarters under Noklak district on Friday.

Speaking at the inaugural programme, Arikumba reminded that Gaon Buras (GBs) are village headmen and agents of the government functionaries, who are assigned with numerous duties such as maintaining of census, collection of house tax, maintaining of land records etc., stated a DIPR report.

He added that Gaon Buras also assist the government in times of election and encouraged them to perform their duties with sincerity and to cooperate with the government. He further highlighted some points about the aspirational block programme for Thonoknyu.

Short speeches were delivered by Yamong, president of Block Union, Thonoknyu; Khaikho, president of PRSU; Shangchiu, president of KSU; Lamnya, president of NDGBA; and SDO (Civil) Thonoknyu.

The welcome address was delivered by president of Village Chief GBs Union, S Tunyu, while the vote of thanks was delivered by SP Tujong, executive chairman of TAVC GBs’ Union.

A cultural dance was presented by members of Chiphur village and a song was presented by M Pukei.
