Curtain falls on Republic Day celebration in Manipur

Imphal, Jan. 27 (EMN): Beating of the Retreat and spectacular folk dance competition marked the closing ceremony of the 74th Republic Day Celebration held at the 1st Manipur Rifles battalion parade ground in Imphal on Friday.

Manipur Governor La Ganesan distributed prizes to different categories of the march past competition during the closing function, which was also attended by chief minister N Biren Singh, ministers, MLAs and top civil and police officers.

For uniform contingents, combined commando contingent (Thoubal/Kakching/Bishnupur) stood first, BSF contingent came second while 6th Battalion, MR (Guard of Honour) bagged third position.

For school contingents (uniform) NCC Senior Air Wing ranked first, 65th NCC Senior Girls and Sainik School B secured second and third positions, respectively.

In the college category, Manipur College ranked first while GP Women College and DM College of Science (Girls) were placed second and third, respectively.

In the band party category, Young Eagle Brass Band, Sagolband A; 9th IRB Mahila Band with VDF Band, Imphal West, and Home Guard (Female Band) secured first, second and third positions, respectively.

The governor also distributed cash prizes to the winners of the folk dance competition. The first three winners of the folk dance competition are Meitei Inat Kanba Lup, Khurai Konsam Leikai, Rabunamei Dance Troupe, Senapati District, and Parbung Hmar Youth Association Cultural Troupe.
