District Magistrate and District Election Officer, Longleng Dharam Raj imposed curfew (prohibition any movement of person outside their respective residence) upon under sub-section (2) of Section 144 CrPC, 1973 from 12 pm of February 28 to 7 pm of March 1 within the administrative jurisdiction of Longleng town.
The order was necessitated for “prevention of breach of peace, disturbance of public tranquility and danger to human lives and properties, because of the unlawful activities by some motivated organisations for furtherance of their evil design”.
Government agencies involved in the enforcement of law and order and other essential services would be exempt from the order. In case of emergencies they may apply to DM and DEO and SP, Longleng for permission and their movements would be restricted until written permission is obtained from them, it said.
