Cultural items mark tribal festival in Mokokchung

Ungma, Sep. 29 (EMN): Office of the District Cultural Officer, Mokokchung, and the department of Art and Culture jointly organised a one-day tribal festival at its office complex in Ungma village on September 29 on the theme “Igniting cultural traditions.”
The deputy commissioner of Mokokchung Shashank Pratap Singh, who was the special guest, has lauded the district cultural officer for organising the event in a grand manner after a long gap of COVID-19 pandemic lockdown.
Describing India as a land of diverse cultures and traditions, he stated that unity in diversity is the strength and beauty of India. Acknowledging the initiatives taken by the department to hold such an event, he stated that the diverse traditional culture of the people is an asset to every community.
Delivering the welcome address, the district cultural officer, Imyaba Ao, stated that festival is a time to bring social cohesion among the community. Besides, he stated that it is a time when cultural and ethnic topic are brought up by way of discussion and conveyed to the younger generation to preserve its distinct identities.
The highlights of the programme included folklore recitation by Kajenkala and Aokonang Jamir; folk tunes by Imlinungchet and Akinaro and Association of performing Arts and Theatricals, Mokokchung; presentation of cultural dances by the students of NI Jamir GHSS, Mayangnokcha GHSS and Nentong Rogo Soyim; and indigenous games demonstration by Aosungkum Cultural Club.
