Dimapur, Nov. 28 (EMN): A Cultural Interpretation Centre (CIC) in Chizami village under Phek district was inaugurated on November 23. The project ‘Cultural Interpretation Centre – Library & Museum (Phase II)’ was sanctioned under MPLAD fund (2018-2019) by Swapan Dasgupta, then Member of Parliament, Rajya Sabha, and implemented by North East Network (NEN).

An update from NEN stated that the CIC was built with the objectives of showcasing the rich cultural heritage of the local communities for awareness and education; facilitate inter-generational and inter-cultural learning and sharing; harnessing talents, skills and knowledge of community people especially of young people, and provide space for creative expressions.

The director of Tourism, Keduosie-u M Rio, inaugurated the centre. While appreciating the effort in cultural rejuvenation, she stressed on the importance of prioritising women’s health, which is the foundation for building a home and community that thrives.

She also stressed on the importance of engaging young people in appreciating local culture through experiential education.

The inaugural programme was attended by 91 participants representing various community-based organisations, government departments, church, community elders, women collectives, NEN staff from Assam and Nagaland, and well-wishers.

Highlights of the programme include speeches, performances, exhibitions of textiles, seed and bamboo diversity, journey of NEN Nagaland through photographs.

Menoulhou Domeh, pastor of CTBC, pronounced a prayer of dedication and closing prayer was said by K Thopi, pastor of CBC. The welcome address was delivered by Tamara Law Goswami, executive director of NEN, while presentation on vision and objectives of the CIC was said by Seno Tsuhah, advisor NEN, and financial utilisation report was presented by Dilo, administrator of NEN.

Short messages were delivered by Biswajit Kumar Das, representative of Swapan Dasgupta, former MP; Shyamal Mukherjee, chief administrative officer of Vidhi Centre for Legal Policy, Delhi; and Veyielo Doulo, additional director of Tourism department.
